Irritable Bowel Syndrome
I am passionate about helping people move from feeling stuck with their gut problems to having freedom to live life however they want to with no thought of ‘Where is the closest toilet’.
My interest in nutrition started when working with my own personal experience of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. It started with feeling anxious over giving a presentation resulting in having to rush to the toilet. This happens to many people but the difference is then I would feel more anxious about that happening again. Before long it was controlling my life – avoiding unfamiliar locations, always doing a mental check of where the toilets are, not sitting in the centre of the row at the cinema, avoiding going in someone else’s car because I don’t have the control to stop when I want to. Seeing a natural health doctor helped me towards getting back on track. The physical side of treatment is relatively straight forward but being able to lose the associated anxiety takes quite a while and is a gradual process.
For the last 12 years I have been helping people who feel their gut issues are just part of the ‘normal’ restricted life. It is a normal thing to change your lifestyle to accommodate your condition but before you know it, your lifestyle becomes avoidance. Like most things it creeps up on you.
Prior to nutrition I worked in corporate IT for many years. Experiencing the highs and lows of what goes with that. Deadlines, pressure, stress, dragging myself out of bed and battling peak-hour traffic. Highs were the social aspects with work. I absolutely love my life now. I help people with gut disorders that are at the core of health.
